Special Effects on Cards

1) Toony Weapon: One Attack in any Location

An Attack symbol accompanies “Toony Weapon.” The ability to strike any Location is nice, but the one Attack is a little underwhelming.

2) Toony Web: If you end your turn in the Villain’s Location, negate the next Villain movement.

“Toony Web” has an interesting effect. It continues the trend of Enter the Spider-Verse Heroes capabilities to affect the flow of the game. Spider-Ham has the weakest of these effects.

It’s at least very situational. You must end your turn in the Villain’s Location and if the Villain has movement, that movement is negated. If the Villain has a BAM! effect on their card, you may not want to occupy the same space as the Villain. But there could be certain situations (very niche) where you may want “Toony Web’s” effect.

3) Toony Essence: Until the beginning of your next turn you cannot be forced to discard your last card.

“Toony Essence” is an oddly specific variation of the “you cannot receive damage until the beginning of your next turn” series of Hero abilities. Damage is the most likely way a Hero will discard. But “Toony Essence” only takes effect if the card in question is the last card in your hand. If you have two or three cards in your hand, you’ll still have to discard no matter the effect.

There are a few other effects besides damage that can cause a Hero to discard, but players are highly unlikely to encounter them while Spider-Ham has only one card in his hand. I could see this effect working better if another card in Spider-Ham’s deck caused him to discard cards to gain tokens (or another benefit), but since that’s not the case, “Toony Essence” underwhelms.

Overview

Spider-Ham has adequate Move and a lot of Attack, but he’s the worst Hero in the Enter the Spider-Verse expansion for Heroics. He works best when he battles an enemy with a lot of henchmen or ones with a lot of health. You should also consider pairing Spider-Ham with another Hero with plenty of Heroics.

Good Teammates

Fortunately, every other Hero in the Enter the Spider-Verse expansion has a lot of Heroics. Ghost-Spider and Miles Morales are well above average, while Spider-Man has an ability that make up for him having a little less. Captain America, Ant-Man, and Captain Marvel from the core set are also good options.
