Special Effects on Cards

1) Master Tinkerer: Gain 1 Wild token OR your Action tokens can be used twice this turn.

A Wild token is always welcome, but Rocket’s second option works best here. Using Action tokens twice in a turn can turn the tide quickly, and there are ways to gain extra action tokens within the Guardians of the Galaxy Remix expansion: Locations and Star-Lord.

You can spend these Action tokens twice this turn or hold onto them if you haven’t yet used the one copy of Rocket’s other special effect.

2) Raccoon Senses: Gain 1 Wild token OR convert any number of Action tokens you own into Wild tokens.

Again, a Wild token is welcome, but converting any number of your Action tokens into Wild tokens can be a game changer. The versatility of Wild tokens can’t be overstated. They can literally be used for anything in the game and are useful at any phase of the game (before or after a Villain can be damaged). And stockpiling tokens and then unleashing all your Wild tokens in a single turn can shift a mediocre turn into an amazing one.

Overview

Rocket sports a little less with Heroics. He’s average with Move and Wild symbols, but his tandem of abilities “Master Tinkerer” and “Raccoon Senses” can manipulate the total symbols he can generate. Attack is where Rocket excels. He does best against Villains who place a lot of Thugs, have a lot of henchmen, or have a bunch of health.

If you face a Villain who requires a lot of Heroics, you may consider teammates with plenty of those actions.

Good Teammates

Rocket has some good teammate options if you plan to stay on the Guardians of the Galaxy theme. Groot’s special effects provide utility for any other Hero, while Star Lord generates plenty of action tokens. In fact, Star-Lord can choose which action tokens (Heroics, Attack, or Move) he gives his teammates. This pairs great with Rocket’s “Master Tinkerer” ability.

If you plan to go off theme, you can choose the standard teambuilder Captain America from the core set or go with someone like Iron Man who can generate tokens, too. And Captain Marvel and Ant-Man are strong in the areas where Rocket is weakest.
